My theory, nothing confirmed btw

Here’s a possible theory on why Rex shot Brett, but keep in mind that this is just personal speculation and could be wrong.
There are quite a few details that suggest Nathan might have feelings for Brett(?). In short, compared to others, Brett is someone Nathan respects. Before getting shot, Nathan avoided Brett’s gaze out of embarrassment. For an arrogant jerk who abuses his power to act awkward toward Brett, I have a theory that Nathan and Brett might have known each other since childhood, possibly because Nathan’s father and Brett’s father are friends. As Nathan grew older and became more unpleasant, Brett probably distanced himself from Nathan.
Now, how does Nathan’s possible crush on Brett relate to Rex? I theorize that Rex had to follow Nathan’s orders because his family demanded it, forcing him to befriend Nathan in hopes of gaining favor with Nathan’s father, the governor. But no matter how hard Rex tried, even if he resigned himself to doing negative things to please Nathan, he was still treated with disdain and mocked like a toy.
Meanwhile, Brett, born an Alpha, also comes from a wealthy family but doesn’t have to rely on anyone. Brett didn’t even have to try (and actively avoided Nathan), yet he still gained Nathan’s attention.
This could be the reason for Rex’s hatred toward Brett, and Brett giving advice and using his beta brother as an example might have been the last straw for Rex’s pent-up resentment.
In any case, in season 2, Brett is going to face quite a few problems and challenges.
