Because not being able to be the emperor is a larger insult than straight up dying, he'll have to bear the insult and atone for his sins for as long as he lives
I'm having mix feelings
Like at one hand I want emperor Kaidan to die so that our FL can gain true freedom, but on the other hand dood is a shitty parent + partner but a capable emperor that cares for the empire. I hope dood would survive but retire to the countryside or something and live a peaceful life, far far away from our FL and her precious kids.
