I sympathize with the Emperor but that doesn't change the fact that he failed to protect his child. He is also an idiot, and a weak man. This is supposed to be the highest authority in the Empire and I'm supposed to believe that while he was convinced that his child was still alive after their birth/death, he wasn't able to do a single thing about it? Such as instigate a national search? Forgiving that, in the beginning of the story it's stated that he goes around visiting orphanages looking for his child. And I'm supposed to believe that every one of them was well maintained and happy? At the very least, if he suspected that his child was somehow living in an orphanage wouldn't he take special care to make sure that they are all of a certain standard/quality so that his child, at the very least, isn't living in a horrible situation?
