Isn’t whole ss1 is Brett chasing Hayden? Hayden is the one who being passive here tho?
I interpreted s1 as brett provoking hayden mostly. I think brett finds hayden interesting > genuinely liking him. Whereas hayden subconsciously likes brett (him willingly going along w brett's party, watching his games, restaurant, forming a bond, taking a bullet).
To me, hayden acts passively (didnt care abt the kiss, didnt care abt having him during rut) bc he knows his place and doesnt want to overstep (social class gap thats constantly reinforced + brett's personality)
Brett personality is Prey and Brat so of course he act that way. But he still like and are the only one who put the most effort to maintain his relationship with Hayden. Hayden is the one who alway push Brett away whenever reason is it, until ch.18, when Brett stop contact with him, but he not reply Brett messages and never go meet Brett first is something even Brett Himself complaint in ch.24. So what i said still true, Brett already the one who chasing Hayden in ss1
I agree with you about season 1! That’s mostly how I interpreted it as well. I think that Brett is just slowly starting to realize how much he likes Hayden, rather than starting out in love with Hayden. I think he is trying to win Hayden’s favor at every point, because to him, he’s clearly stated that they have a mutually beneficial relationship. His motivations are pretty give and take with everyone in the story so far- like he has a need for equal exchange. I think he doesn’t know where he stands with Hayden, since Hayden is very hot and cold, so he spends a lot of his interactions with him either trying to win him over or to gauge where he stands.
I do think that Brett is putting in the external effort for Hayden all throughout S1 tho! He’s the one actively trying. Hayden is putting in a lot of internal effort that he doesn’t show on the surface, so Brett can’t get an accurate read on Hayden. And we all know Brett purposely instigates to know what others are thinking. I genuinely think that Hayden just doesn’t know how to communicate, not that he’s pushing Brett away. He’s like that socially awkward type that doesn’t really know how to interact with the popular kid, and Brett obviously doesn’t have this struggle. He’s very good at communication.
I think its far away, cos brett is a green flag w communication n has made it clear he doesnt have any intentions to take it further but i want to see him pining, jealous and in love please hayden took a bullet, give that man a bone
