I don't hate that there's a misunderstanding, I hate how contrived it is. Why did he try to see Tanitar and not Terryl to check if she was dead? And Tanitar just happened to be super conveniently next to her fake corpse, reinforcing that it the right way to find out about her death somehow. It just straight up didn't make any sense
