I feel the exact same way. I guess this „somber“ feeling I had was actually a feeling of nothingness. I don’t think it’s badly written either, but I feel like their romantic relationship falls really flat? Thag being said, I have yet to read the sequel so maybe Emmy opinion will change
This entire series feels so... Empty to me. While I would say the writing isn't bad at all, but the resolution of the characters' feelings seem very incomplete. I remember reading the entire series and feeling so empty by the end.
