Maybe a cut sceen would have been ok. Then it could have been evidence that shows what she has been going through and to justify her fear to not say anything to anybody (to Ellen, Freya, soldiers, FIL). I think the author is trying to show the complexity of humanity. Cesare has a twisted view but honestly thinks he doing this for her. Ruby is absolutely miserable though. It just goes to show doesn't matter if you think you are doing something for the best if all it causes is pain and suffering.

Im glad that they left out the whole beating scene, im not a fan of this kind of grotesque things.
But why the fuck adding sob story to Cesare character? Is mr narcissist-sisterdiddler really needed that? Is author trying to justify abuse here? It felt like Ruby MADE him slap and push her with her “insensitive” comments, rather her stepping on his ego.
Its like author doesn’t want her favourite boy look bad in this scene.
