OK I have a theory... maybe the nasty disgusting pos cardinal that I refuse to name because I even hate his name right now, did all that to Ian about not using mana and stuff because Brian interfered in his plan of breaking the contract by killing himself before it broke BUT because the contract is literally in shambles rn it's probably so weak in the future that unless Ian uses his mana sol can't find him and this pos somehow figured it out Because I can't imagine why he would suppress him from using mana when he's so infatuated with his abilities of creating a world and his talent in using mana At the end of the day L word was obsessed with engineering worlds and mana research I don't think his obsession is about their relationship alone it doesn't make sense to me that would make it kinda one dimensional which non of them are. like the world building and political aspects of this story is insanely good Or maybe I'm just distracting myself from the fact that my favorite character ever is dying soon for no reason whatsoever so idk
