I understand that but soldiers go to war in broad daylight ofc they will either be dark or brown color even the main character and his comrades here are tanned so I don't see the reason why they are commenting that on this manwha. Author and artist does not seem to hate skin of color so blindly turning them into racist is a bit..

With peace and love, if you dont identify with the people if color in question, its not your place to comment about how something may or may not be racist.
Your reasoning does not seem like it comes from a bad place but is very flawed.
Youre forgetting a person can be born with dark skin, they could never step in the sun long enough to get even a shade darker and still be darker than a white person.
If youre saying that these people are dark because of the sun, why dont the other side have atleast one person with a shade similar to their enemies, they dont even have weird tan lines that could come from their armour gaps. Both groups spent long enough together outside (it looks like the protag spent a lot of time before the war in the sun too just doing chores) why is one side darker.
Theres also another thing about the tattoes that are similar to indigenous groups in America and oceania whose lands were stolen from them by white ppl. It just tells me the author did the bare minimum when researching this topic (possibly none). Feels racist but its not my place to say its “not racist” since im not indigenous.
Final thing i wanna say, scientific knowledge is partially written in the blood of minorities, many groups of ppl including poor and disabled people from different races, especially darker people, have been exploited/experimented on leaving them permanently disabled or even killed.

I see I get what you're saying and that's exactly why I said evolution if you look at tribal groups of even country's where people are fair skinned or mixed skin color you'll find them closer to people who are already born dark because if their previous generations worked in the sun too it comes down in the dna..I mean that's how I think evolution works and that's why I said people of the empire have lighter skin tone... sure it would be great if artist added some dark skin people in the empire as well but I just feel like it might just be artist being lazy to use drastically different shade because when drawing a dark person your whole color pallet combos does a flip so yeah it might just be artist being lazy and not them being actually racist.
Also you're right it's not my place to say it's not racist but it just does not feel right to judge so quickly so I said what I said.
I'll say it here :
I hardly think it is racism because when depicting barbarians who are constantly out in the sun they ought to have darker skin tones and people of the empire with proper settlement & roof above their head would relatively have lighter skintone. It's nature and lifestyle tbh. Even light skin people when out in the sun too long turn brown so it ain't that serious. Not everything is about racism and are we really going to forget science and evolution? :/
