Its some sort of manipulation tactic so the prince will be "too broken" over the loss and will be easier to order arounds and just be heartbroken to defy their orders. This is what happened to the former king.

Thank you! I only realized that after reading more ahead haha. I was like, "I thought the round table people cared about the prince? Why are they killing the guy who's actually helping him?" LOL. Apparently they don't care.
