Literally ! Like at worst y'all rose up tension so what ? You can always lie to the population about it being some training or whatever.
But if Kouichi dies, you basically choose not only death, but also become the most hated person in the entire universe 'cos bro was protecting someone else's kid...
And I'm not even mentioning the sneaky torture y'all will experience from all his friends, regardless of the species.
Imagine someone saying “your future empress is in danger and so is the future monarch of another species! Please go and help them!” And someone of a lower status is like “…nah”. I’d force them to help and then behead them all for treason and insubordination. How can a mere soldier doubt a Prince when he says that the bloody monarchs are in danger?!?! Idc if he was joking or not! That’s a serious allegation and it needs following up! I hope they all get severe punishment like losing their non dominant hand, tongue being cut or legit losing their head for this.
