hmmm not really. i think since it was established that they had a thing for each other, there always seemed to be some sort of romantic tension between them so the development didn't feel sudden.

Yeah, I thought the same. Even with years of pining on both sides, there would be more awkwardness and cautious approaching, I reckon.
I have the same sentiment. It's the way the plot was laid out that for me, it just felt empty and detached. The story had potential, but the way it was executed was underwhelming and disappointing, imo.
