I LOVE MAKING REALLY QUESTIONABLE CHARACTER ANALYSIS IN A REDESIGNED YAOI MANGA WEBSITE !!! anyways i love yuri but i feel like it's weird for people to praise her so much bc she's lowkey like,, not the best person (in a mora sense).
like i genuinely LOVE yuri, and i've been an avid supporter of her actions since the beginning, but i also think it's so weird that people are defending her with a very black-and-white view that since she's not guilty of anything and the fiance should be at fault for everything (which is true, i'm not denying that), then therefore she's just as morally upright and normal as like any other given character?? or that she's even doing sanghee a favor, when i think it's perfectly normal for people to withhold from accrediting her for the impact of her actions when her actions were done with questionably malicious intent and the positive impact of those actions were purely unintentional on her part? like i think most people defend her because her actions weren't purposefully targeted to hurt sanghee and weren't targeted to benefit the shithead fiance in anyway, but it's also like she's also smart and aware enough to know how sanghee, who unlike the fiance truly is innocent in all of this, would be impacted by all of this. personally, i think yuri was not in the wrong for fucking around on a gameshow like this, but i also do think it's REALLY weird to defend her actions as something morally okay when someone innocent WILL be the inevitable victim towards her actions (ON LIVE, NATIONAL TV LOL like bruh her legacy and marriage and personal life will be tied to this shit) and she KNOWS it and just doesn't care.
like i don't think her actions were wrong, i think they were funny and lowkey girlboss and entertaining (like yesss go short that shithead of his entire future due to the consequences of his own shitty behaviors), but i also do think she's definitely the type of person to laugh at sanghee for crying over a shitty man ESPECIALLY if she's the one to curate that event into happening. like not ONCE throughout this story can i say she felt any real sympathy towards sanghee's predicament, and you can argue all you want that she's in no way obligated to and she's not the one to be blamed as the main source of it (even though she KNEW how to make it happen and purposefully chose to do it), but her lack of emotional sympathy or at least MILD pity for sanghee (especially when she's upclose and center to sanghee's reactions, distress, and declining stability) is not reflective of a good nor nice person. she doesn't even think ONCE about sanghee, doesn't even reflect on her behavior in a way that acknowledges sanghee, and has only ever reflected about mungju being a shitty person in how that aligns wih her goals or curiosities. like i don't think she's a bad person, but i don't think she's a good one, either (and more importantly, i don't think she cares about being a good person, which i think works very well for her character).
like at the end of the day, you can argue the fiance is a shitty person and is the actual source of sanghee's misery: like this situation cannot exist without him being a shitty person. but i think people are forgetting that yuri purposefully facilitated an environment to enable and validate his shitty actions for the sake of her own goals, with zero regards for how that'd impact sanghee? she's clearly emotionally intelligent enough to use her surroundings (including the people in it) to her advantage and to create opportunities out of them, so therefore she is definitely emotionally intelligent enough to understand what emotional distress sanghee is in due to her behavior. and it's not like yuri's "favor" of showing her how horrible her bf is was intentional on yuri's behalf- it was purely a side-effect of her actions, a side-effect she definitely didn't feel any need to obtain; she did not prioritize sanghee's outcome in all of this, even though sanghee will obviously be a victim of her actions no matter how she plays the game. if anything, i bet yuri doesn't really give a shit what sanghee does after she messes around with glasses dude. whether or not sanghee is hurt, distressed, angry, or wisened up to the point of breaking up with her trash fiance probably means nothing to yuri, and i think that's why most people can't get behind her actions, because regardless of how this is a game and how yuri is playing it correctly, yuri is smart enough to know the consequences of her actions.
so like. yuri is totally a morally-gray character, so seeing people defend her as not immoral or wrong feels off to me, because i feel like the ENTIRE point of her character is that she is meant to be morally controversial, not a black-and-white morally defendable character. i think she's genuinely just a person who acts purely out of self-interest, and therefore doesn't have any real priority in hurting or scamming others, they just happen to be tools for a greater gain. like i think as much as she has no interest in emotionally tormenting others, she has no real moral adversion towards it. you can tell that sanghee is not once in her sympathies even after she analyzed mungju for the type of man that he is; she's very analytical and cold, and doesn't cast a moral judgment onto mungju even for his actions. Rather, he fell out of her favor because she was disinterested in a man whose emotions and way of loving no longer aligned with her intrigue. which is why i do really like her, because i do think her lack of respect or consideration for sanghee isn't just towards her, but towards everyone around her (even towards nuri, who clearly knows her the best and is weirdly the most compatible with her emotionally-detached nature). like i think her coldness doesn't come from a sense of narcissism or moral beliefs, but rather, from a sense of a personal interest, curiosity, and self-benefit. imo, yuri is a total hedonist (not even in a sexual sense, just in a general sense), and is very morally-grey and therefore not easily likeable since as much as she's not "guilty," she has the personality of someone who wouldn't care if she was. like i agree, she's not a villain, but she totally knew she was the villain in sanghee's life and is actively making her miserable, and did not care, regardless of whether or not she was the main source of her troubles.
