Personally I count mid 20s and below as younger yaoi (I expect them to be dumber with decisions and immature with emotions), late 20s to late 40s as mature adult yaoi (I expect more from the plot and characters overall since they’ve managed to get this far in life), and 50+ as older yaoi (kind of a big randomizer for characters since they have a whole lot of backstory that’ll take time and good writing to understand).
