It sounds like you're blaming Kirishima specifically when it doesn't matter if it was Shouma or any other guy, they'd all give her the same answer. Because all the men around her household carry traditional (yakuza) value of women are to be demure, upstanding nadeshiko---and not only does she understand that, she is used to it. He isn't trying to gatekeep her or anything, he's just trying to be tactful about it by teaching her at a later time. He literally said he would, so she could avoid the obscenities. Yoshino is not in love with Kirishima, and in the begining neither was Kirishima, but by ch 38: the story definitely made it clear, he's made it clear, and she's already understood (literally in text) at this point in time---he loves her for real. And yes, they have sex education in Japan but it's carried out in small stages across school years, and it doesn't actually get into the details of safe sex, just the technical aspects. So slang terms like rubber/gomu aren't taught; and neither are graphic images ever used. It's not even mandatory in some areas so there are even adults who don't know much about sex ed. Japan is an extremely reserved country altogether. The people who are interested in sex will find out, and those who aren't simply won't.
