I feel you, compared to other manhwa theres no visual apparent chemistry. But Ilay is quite literally mentally ill and doesn’t contain empathy. So his way of ‘courting’ Tay is just tragic. And Tay kinda has a mixture of Stockholm Syndrome and curiosity. Kinda like a tsundere version of ‘ I can fix him’ ,which makes no sense.

its like i get that its toxic (idk why the loser who replied after u that doesnt even have replies turned on/blocked me thought i didnt know what i was reading) but even in other toxic manhwas i HAVE read there was something tying the characters together and a reason why at least one of them was obsessive like that. w ilay lets say i get it hes unstable u cant rlly justify but taeui is js so . boring like he doesnt even really gaf abt whats going on at any point in time its all a mild inconvenience to him like do something dude

I think it’s easy to label them as a regular toxic top and spineless bottom combo but imo their relationship is more nuanced than that, and a lot of it gets lost in the adaption from novel to manhwa. The best way I can explain their dynamic is the scene when they’re in the cafeteria and Taeui stopped someone from shooting ilay by pointing a gun at ilay. Up until this moment, ilay is characterized as the kind of guy who was raised on the belief of a strength hierarchy (those who are strong are on top), and his reasons for acting can be boiled down to simple reasons (self defense, being hired to do a job, etc) and yes even though he stretches to reach these conclusions, it’s how he operates. And so when he sees Tae-ui threaten him with a gun, he admits that he loses any kind of fascination with Tae-ui, because he associates Tay with all the other ppl in the past who have tried to attack Ilay, who know they’re far weaker than him, and yet use anything in their power to try to gain an unfair advantage (sneaking up on ilay, attacking at night, bombs, etc). Ilay thinks they’re dumb/unskilled and not self aware enough to realize the danger they put themselves through. The difference is clear in the metaphor though, when ilay finds out Tae-ui’s gun is not loaded. And so he instantly realizes the difference between Tae-ui and all the other people who have attacked him in the past: Tae-ui is fully aware the situation is futile, and yet he chooses to stake his life on it anyway. Bc that’s the kind of person he is—someone who acts in accordance with their own principles, however foolish, because everything he does is a true reflection of himself as a person. And yes even though those decisions are reckless and not well thought out at times, Taeui acts with pure intention, even at the risk of his safety. And so this is a huge contrast to how ilay lives, which is an eat or be eaten kind of principle, someone who does what he deems is necessary when appropriate. So even though Tae-ui is someone you can easily read, he is simultaneously an enigma to Ilay. And then that leads him to doing his mind games on Taeui to try and get a reaction out of him, whether it’s out of wanting to be closer to Tay, or because it’s entertainment (sleeping with Xinlu ultimately not bc he truly wanted to have sex with him, but to see the look on Taeui’s face when he walked in on them. And underlying all of that, he wanted to drive a wedge between Ilay and Xinlu, bc he couldn’t stand how lovesick Tay was in the beginning around Xinlu). So in doing that, ilay is attempting to get Tae-ui to fall under his hierarchy by being “aware” (only the strongest can achieve what they desire bc they simply just do it and know they have what it takes to back it up) but Tae-ui just does what he wants anyway which only continues to provoke/confuse/fascinate ilay
everything abt this story confuses me and their chemistry is still non existent after 105 chapters and four seasons im only reading bc ive got so far and atp the fomo would get me if i stop but theres nothing even remotely interesting or romantic about whats going on between ilay and taeui
