Okay so we’re not yet 100% sure how (likely when he saw the photo of his family) but Peter realised that he knows Thaddeus’s father, and after Thae told him story behind Kowloon Devil and that he’s person he learned his martial arts from, Peter guessed that Kowloon Devil and Thaddeus’s father might be same person. By seeing Thaddeus’s martial style, he wanted to confirm his theory and tell Thae the truth, that his father is Kowloon Devil and also the OG Apostole Thaddeus (who looks like is still working under Raphael and seems to be traitor to Peter)…
So he provoked him to see his true strenght and compare the two martial techniques.
