My theory is
They’re all people who’ve been transmigrated into the game. And the reason why they’ve forgotten memories is because not all of them have been able to find the tapes in there first run making them forget they’re in the game when they get killed in their matches moving forward. Which is why I believe the reason why pi badas memories are a bit unstable is because he probably forgot to save his tape during his run with that orange hair guy assuming he died before getting to it. Now he’s back to square one where this time only he thinks they’re all npcs and he’s a real player only to discover that if you give the npcs their own tapes they suddenly have minds of their own. This all makes sense now. They’re all trapped in a game together. Not like we didn’t already figure that out in the earlier chapters with our theories lol. But the twist just keeps getting more better as we read along.
