Cuz we are following Dowon mainly, and so we know what he knows essentially. To answer your question: SPOILERS. But yes they did die. And our top has gone through a lot of loss in life. Hence why he is so cold and closed off in his current age.

That’s literally the entire story so I’m not gonna spoil the entire thing. Maybe someone else is willing to do that, but the novel is worth reading 100% if you can’t wait for the comic.
