It's because the MC barely has a nose.
After looking further. Artist was probably often drawing art of older teen/adult characters.
The protagonist is a child and certain features drawn adult-like (long face, defined jaw line, etc.) instead of being child-like (shorter face/chin, round)
Is it me or does it seem somewhat AI generated? I hope I'm wrong but certain faces look... alittle off
