he actually said it…. it’s because he dislikes how brett “looks down” on others and acts like it’s not his business. if you go back to the party chapters brett tells alexander to stop putting up with bs and to live his own life.
Alexander has a HUGE chip on his shoulders. The author does a really good job of getting us to hate Brett's attitude because he's high and mighty and in some sense above everyone because things are so easy for him: God looks, sporty, athletic, socially suave, high social standing, money. The works. But as far personally offending anyone, he hasn't. Not in the way would bring about murderous intent. But for someone like Alexander, who is a coward and has been beaten into a corner, somehow could pull a trigger on him.
