more about chapter 36 - my opinion

Hayden was ashamed of his alpha nature because, when he was younger, he lost control during his first rut. The trauma from that incident made him so reluctant to face others that he couldn’t bring himself to stand on stage again. This experience changed him and, thus, one of his fundamental beliefs became the denial of his alpha nature.

Fundamental beliefs are part of people’s core and usually only shift when people’s understanding of their reality changes. In Hayden’s case, his understanding of his reality implied that alphas were the same as beasts. However, when Brett came into his life and taught him how to embrace his alpha nature, it shook Hayden’s mind and allowed him to reconsider his reality and ultimately change his fundamental belief. Proof of this shift happens when Scott tells Hayden that Brett does not deserve him, to which Hayden replies with “when you consider the parts of me I wanted to hide… I’m the one who’s not good enough”. In this moment, Hayden acknowledges that he was wrong for hiding parts of himself and that Brett was the one who made him realize that. So, by confronting his own internal struggle, Hayden demonstrates that he was the first to change, however, up until chapter 36 we hadn’t explicitly seen that Brett has changed, albeit slightly, too.

When it comes to Brett, he has said he does not like plays because they have “a set ending”. At the time, we didn’t know why, but now we know it is because he’s been told how to act during his entire life by his father. To Brett, his father’s expectations are like a play’s predetermined plot, one he does not plan to follow. Brett rebelled against this script by playing football and being into dominant alphas. The thing is, to those around him, it may seem like Brett has not changed, but he’s done it so subtly that no one really notices it.

Now, let’s revisit the moment when the director lady tells Hayden that rich people like Brett don’t change for others… she also said that maybe Brett is different. Hayden is left pondering, and now, with the context from chapter 36, we can understand why. Brett is, for the most part, a realist, but he holds certain idealized beliefs about love, goodwill, and altruism. His understanding about these concepts is like "searching for a mystical blue bird” (remember that one class Hayden was in? yeah that’s where the quote comes from). So, maybe Brett is willing to change, if it’s for love. And Hayden hopes that he might be the one to make Brett believe in that change, just like how Brett did with him.

Bonus: remember Hayden’s dream of standing on stage with Brett as part of the audience telling him to perform? this was a key moment because it happened right when Hayden had bonded to Brett. So, why would Hayden, who had once dropped out of theater because of his fear, be back on stage? Because he had finally accepted himself and was no longer afraid. If Brett is watching him, he is confident to be himself again.

tl;dr: this story is very well thought out and told that I’m obsessed with it. The author does a good job and I’m looking forward to more of them.

It's both a shock and a shame that this wasnt based off of a novel (not that I'm aware of anyway), because the way characters and details are laid out are almost poetic. There are subtle things, similar to the ones you pointed out, that are easily missed or skimmed through if the reader isn't paying close attention. I know the author does a well enough job taking us to the characters' thought process, but what I wouldn't give to see inside Brett's mind as a lot of these things start to unfold.

i'm not sure how you're still seeing the comment since they used the spoiler function. i checked both on PC and mobile and its not showing up for me unless i purposely expand the comment. Are you by chance expanding the comment so that it shows up?

Nope. But it's ok. The OP responded to their other thread. I didn't click on anything it just wasn't hidden when I was scrolling through the comments. (Like the comment wasn't hidden and marked as spoiler by the site.) I'm just glad they weren't trying to spoil on purpose. I've ran across so many ppl doing that.

It could be a glitch. I've rarely ran across it though so it could be one of those.

I don't need you to be rude. All the other ones I see that are marked as spoilers and hidden are hidden. But occasionally I've ran into the ones like this one here that shows up even though it's been hidden. So all the other comments that had been marked for this story I can see them as hidden. So it's not happening with all of them. And I didn't know it had been marked. So don't be rude.

So I apologize to OP if comment has already been hidden bcz I didn't see it on my end.

like I said before, I did not miss the spoiler warning, not in this comment nor in the other one. however, if you visit my profile and read my comments from there the site will remove the spoiler warning for some reason, so make sure you are viewing comments from the story’s main page instead.

i agree! the author is talented. i see new webtoons pop up everyday and yet it’s hard to find stories like this. i’ve read the story so many times that i always find something new. and wouldn’t it be lovely to see brett’s mind, however, for this story’s magic to work, we need to change our perspective the same way characters do. i think we are getting there actually, now that hayden has pointed it out.

yes!! i love your analysis!! this story just keeps getting better and better, it’s quite rare these days to find a bl manhwa with these types of layered, complex characters and story. You can really tell the author is an excellent writer because although it might seem at first like your typical alpha/omega bl it goes much more deeper than that, i love it so much!!

glad to hear that! and honestly yeah, it’s a shame people don’t give this a chance because of the rating… i’ve read so many stories and i can say for sure this is one of my faves because of how solid and likable the main characters are. can’t wait to see what’s in store for them!!!
