why are cute and wholesome stories so short while toxic trash keeps going TT

coz believe it or not slice of life is actually harder to make vs other genres since you'd need to balance out the tone within the story + if it's episodic like this one (kinda?) the author would have to come up with new prompts each chapter, whereas toxic stories have milkable "plots" that can go on through infinity depending on how long the author wants it to be. Also negative emotions are stronger than positive ones so the trashy stories tend to get more recognition and fans that go wild for it (which is sad, but what can ya do?)
