pretty sure actual money is involved in this. you can do buy stocks from SM, HYBE or any company that allows it. k-pop fans actually invest and get into the stock market so these companies stop ignoring their demands since they are essentially stockholders (shareholders) – you can look up Super Junior and ELF history about this. debut or die basically just borrowed and altered this idea to fit their narrative – stocks is essentially their vote (power) to support or eliminate a contestant, you can buy and sell stocks of a contestant in this manhwa.

It’s like the stonks meme lol

But like in reality is to do with shares when talking about companies. People can also trade in the “stock market” by buying “shares” from companies and then selling them to hopefully get more money. It’s basically investing in companies to get some more money. (That’s where the term buy low sell high comes from)

In the show in debut or die, each contestant is basically like the companies that the viewers can choose to invest in. They get like one free share but then they can choose to buy more shares to invest in their favorite contestant and support them. If their investment doesn’t pan out, their idol basically fails and doesn’t debut.
