Yeah that's a legit thing among fan translations. Even with novels. I remember some groups back in the day kept pushing the price of 'advanced chapters' that they were earning thousands of dollars from it. Don't know the market now but I bet MTL has put a dent into those earnings.
THAT CRAZY. i had no idea, i started reading translated manhwas back 2018/2019 and had never heard of this. i used to read on webtoon but i got tired of having to constantly pay for new chapters.
the translations were so bad i went to the lua comic site to read them only to be paywalled
