Many hardcore BL have always been like that, it was never different, the only thing that changed a little is the setting, the classics we're mostly set in high school, Mafia

unfortunately yaoi has always romanticized rape. one could only hope that newer generations would realize how fucked up it is. back when i first started reading webtoon style bls in place of the usual yaoi manga i was really hoping they were going to let that shit go, but we’ve just ended up back at square one!

Rare? I think, you just didn't find/ read them back then. I mean just look up the works of Tateno Makoto, Takagi Ryo, Yamane Ayano, Sakuraga Mei, Momozuki Haruka, Shima Asahi, Nakamura Shungiku etc.

normalised rape in yaois needs to be studied. there’s no yaoi with rapist x victim and toxicity. i dont judge people for whatever they’re reading but it kinda became a pattern these days. it’s difficult to find a yaoi in which ml doesn’t rape the mc. like what happened y’all?? i’ve been reading yaoi for years and past few years i realised all yaois are straight up noncon sex. ofc read whatever you want but it’s kinda sad to see yaoi being equivalent with rape and its culture.
