Honestly i think it was more like she was forced and couldnt tell the truth to her friend.
He is the king and she is a maid, it says in the story that she is a close friend of the queen but she still works with other maids so her position is not much different than any other maid. If the king made a move she would be able to reject him.

It literally would've been a better move to tell the queen and ask for protection. Or she could've left. Rather than this nonsense.
