It seems that way. Even though there was not any big meals in the house, he paid for several dresses and to eat out without a problem. Then he had servants and large meals brought in after feeling bad. If anything, he might have refrained from having all of that stuff due to PTSD and being uncomfortable.
yes this is probably the main reason, and now that he has his wife she’s guiding him little by little
