Frankly speaking, any type of genre doesn't have to be violent, our perspective matters here. Like Romance in general, be it straight, bent or anything else, when enjoyable in a good manner, it's smutty when violence/selfishness is added, it becomes r*pe. Slice of life genres when certain events are added, it can change to action until it becomes calm. Even tragedies which can't be erased can have a different viewpoint, it may make or break the person, but they are still alive and can change for the better.
In Guideverse, if u think of Sentinels as slightly tamed beasts on a legal leash called the law, it becomes difficult for them to vent out, so battlefields become a good place to ease their frustrations. No matter how cleanly the guide removes their impurities, the Sentinel will instinctively want their Guide around as their partner, they become their comfort zone and they tend to act childish for that reason. Unfortunately, they are portrayed as such, so finding healthy Guideverses is difficult. Added with all the fantasy stuff like dungeons, portals and the like (also drama/angst is put to make their love appear challenging) the CP remains messed up.
