Well happened in old era
Mostly because people that time really worry about their daughter marriage
There were in female there often in danger of kidnapped and getting rape and loss virginity
So to unmarried mature girls and their family seen and treat like they are criminal
So to get secure their daughter marriage they often do engagement in early age there also people do child marriage in early age but in mostly place people send their daughter after 16 (it was consider adult age that time) and this is how it becomes trend in that era
