Longing for family acceptance and wanting to see parents as human is deep-seated for a lot of folks though, seems like it is much stronger in asian cultures too. The trope probably won't go away any time soon (which is honestly heartbreaking). Especially since expecting the best from children and pushing them towards success harshly is considered good parenting by so many, even when as you said it is abusive af.
How wonderful that ur bigot abusive parents suddenly rekindled a random love they had for each other after insulting and belittling ur fiance, I'm sure their approval was so worth it as if you both aren't grown adults capable of making your own decisions in life.
