Like what historical events? And in this situation, it's not as if they are under siege or out in the wilderness during winter. There are still tons of canned food available. To even discover that eating human gives you power, someone had to eat human first. Who in their right mind would eat a person within a week of society falling apart? Even perishable food doesn't go bad that quickly.
I mean...I think the Donner and the Uruguayan flight are the most well known ones. But there's plenty of recorded instances of cannibalism during famines in China, Germany, the Soviet Union, North Korea, and no doubt across the world. Not to mention the parties of explorers who were shipwrecked and again, resorted to cannibalism which were also recorded.
Those are even during natural and economic disasters, but we don't need to go that far? There are also plenty of crimes that include cannibalism. Heard of Jeffrey Dalhmer? Bro is not special turns out, there are some humans that are just like that. No need for a disaster or a zombie apocalypse, some people just wanna nibble on their neighbours.

But that is what I mean though. Taking China for example, it was due to famine or the cities were under siege. Donner party, they were trekking from the east to the west and got lost, resorting to cannibalism as the last resort. And serial killers are serial killers. They are not the norm.
I'm not even saying having ppl resort to eating each other is unrealistic. As you said, it has happened historically. I just can't believe it happens within a WEEK of zombies appearing. The author just straight up jump to cannabialism. Unless a family is significantly poor, the average household should at least have a week worth of food, if not more.
At least in other manhuas, whatever radioactive energy from an alien commet spoiled or poisoned the food, leaving only humans as the only edible food source. Give me some kind of explanation at least!
