His abusive relationship with his sister isn't an excuse to lie to MC but it is an explanation and a valid one if you ask me. Like ofc he won't just come clean about cheating because in an actual conversation that would require coming clean about the circumstances.
In a theoretical scenario where my own partner confesses he cheated on me because he's in a comparable situation I'm not gonna be mad because his dick was in someone else but because someone is taking advantage of him against his will.
You can't expect every person to instantly make the best choices when they're in a fucked up place mentally, that type of shit requires work and most often support.
