wait hold on i think you might actually have something here.... the fact that his tattoos also make him look like he's been sewn up in a way, almost like he has died before but was put back together. Maybe this outbreak was the result of experiments made to cheat death and he was the only (that we know so far) successful reanimation project. could also explain why he clearly has an adult brain but has lost most of what could be considered early childhood development.
According to greek mythology, Sisyphus was supposed to be chained in Tartarus but he tricked Thanatos (or Hades) and so they ended up being chained instead that’s why people stopped dying (no one can take the dead people to the underworld anymore cos of it) just like in this story so maybe Guwon did something. Also Sisyphus escaped death twice so he was punished for thinking he was smarted than the gods and his punishment was to push a boulder to the top of the mountain but in this story Guwon keeps on watching over the “big rock” right? To make sure it doesn’t fall over the people in the village.
