I agree. I believe those reaction came from them see him beating those things while smiling or sum like that like other manhwa tends to do. So it's would be safe to say they are scared/intimidated but also feel some sort of grateful? Cuz he protect this town.
We're also talking post apocalyptic society. And the doc said you can only stay if you're useful. So I'm sure he's straight up killed regular people too. I mean they said there were a few of the original residents, this was a mini village built by wealthy elites, most of them should have been able to escape there, but they aren't the main residents.
