Why isn’t the killer smarter than Bada?
- The reason why Bada is "smarter, can think of strategies, have thoughts and feelings, and such a realistic person" is because he's sentient (ie. He made that game save with a tape), while the killer isnt. Also, Bada realness might come from those memories Doha mentions in ch53: “He didn’t have memories at first, but then he went ahead and created his own.”
Then why didn’t they just think to do that to the killer?
- The thing is, the killer is programmed to, well, kill only. His default actions are to swing his hatchet, pull the bow, stab the knife, etc. They could try to subdue the killer, but it's challenging since they have to fight with their life. Literally. (It's easier to kill than subdue IMO). Plus, again, the killer’s not built to do anything beyond attacking. Getting it to mess with a tape feels like a stretch. Bada’s different since he’s the “introduce the game by dropping details” NPC (based on ch54), so he’s got flexibility the killer lacks.
I'm with you that Bada could possibly be a real person though (those memories could hint that he's more than code). Just breaking down your question with what the story’s given us so far

The question that I'm really curious about is what's the direction of the plot? Is it sci-fi (virtual reality world), fantasy (they were transported into the game), or something more spiritual (like purgatory, where the game acts as a dream-like state, and each character/player represents a deeper meaning or unresolved issue in the main character's life)?

I totally agree that Bada might be a real person outside the game, but the viewpoint you're making is a bit off Logically, if other NPCs (including the killer) made a game save, they’d become sentient too. It’s also mentioned in ch53 that when they removed Bada’s tape, he reverted back to a brainless NPC.
The main difference here is that Bada’s sentience (including his smartness, strategies, thoughts, feelings, and whatever else that an NPC doesnt have), comes from inserting the tape. The killer hasn’t done that, so you can't really compare the two. The tape is the key that turns an NPC into a sentient player in the game.

ohhh this is amazingly put.Tbh my memory isn’t strongest and it’s been a while so i may need to reread lmao.
But Another thing that made me go hmm about the Bada being real thing was how they said Bada knows a lot about horror games before they put his tape. Ik that he got sentient before he went ahead and solved everything, but the whole thing about how the guy kept praising bada’s skills and like “you were born to be a gamer” makes me think there’s more to bada than lines of code. after all, computers are known to be dummies until they’re trained, but the way bada is being portrayed by seongchan and doha makes it seem like he was amazing from the get-go, which is very sus
just my line of thought tho

Just leaving this here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1fyfND0KcEKCLjX-4X9l66b9U6diWfaakpy1NOWcA8mY/edit?usp=sharing

So you're telling me there's a handsome face under that hedious mask that the killer is wearing ??? We just need save a tape and gaslight him??
Just kidding, ngl I get you totally, it's just me I know I can't get past the fact that a npc is playing the game other than the main characters and I don't like the fact that he just exist in game not in outside of it like others, also there's so many things that points that he might be real, then who's lying? They just don't know he's real as well? because they just assumed he's a npc because he warns them as a horror cliche but they are also a group of young friends going to a trip in a far mountain with abandon houses instead of going to a beach or smth as a classic horror movie cliche as well,
His storyline might be different you know well anyways love the crazy theories lol
ok so the more i think about it, the more im confident that bada has to be a real person. This isn’t a “Grandma let’s get you to bed moment” because Im trying to cope (well, kinda), but I genuinely think Bada is real.
First of all, if Bada is such a smart npc, then why isn’t the killer smarter than him? Think about it, if the programmers of this game know how to make a npc like Bada think of strategies, have thoughts and feelings, and such a realistic person, why wouldn’t they have also made the killer that way too? In any game the boss or villain character has to always be programmed in a way to always be in an advantageous position over the player, but in this story the serial killer is basically the least of their problems. The serial killer should probably be the smartest entity here, but instead its actions revolve around horror game tropes or when a character is in a certain location.
I’m making a point about this because if Doha and his crew were able to manipulate Bada so much to making him sentient then why didn’t they just think to do that to the killer? That saves them time to look around and solve the puzzles not having to worry about the killer getting them.
But the reason is because they can’t. The npcs in this game aren’t smart enough to be able to do that. Bada is real, they just don’t know it because the programmers have probably done something to him to make him reset his memories.
