Curious, as a psych student what do you think is jiwhan diagnosis?
diagnosis is my weakest point but id say given the mothers history prolly schizo? and/or BPD (borderline personality disorder)

im graduating with a degree in psych in a few months. i wouldnt say he has enough of the symptoms of schizophrenia to meet the diagnostic criteria. As you said though, he has many symptoms that could fit the criteria for BPD making that a possible diagnosis. But I don't think it accounts for all his behavior as he has several antisocial traits as well. The thing with BPD is, if the person is violent, that violence is usually aimed at themselves, whereas jihwan has shown to be violent towards others and showing little to no remorse after doing so. I would personally say he either has a comorbidity of BPD and ASPD, or he has BPD with antisocial personality traits. Since BPD and ASPD are both cluster B personality disorders, it's not uncommon for a person with one of those disorders to have traits from another disorder from the same cluster. Could be more, could be something different entirely, but I definitely believe it is in the realm of personality disorders. Just thought I'd share my thoughts. I love doing deep dives and plan to go into criminal psychology so this is very interesting to me
i believe with BPD with ASPD, i was thinking it was really comorbidity.. well his mom having schizophrenia can be a predisposition to his illness too..
schizophrenia is indeed heavily genetic meaning he would be at a high disposition for the disorder, but at this point in time he hasn't shown much in the way of that. Although, schizophrenia often takes time to manifest and he could just not be showing signs yet. Around your 20's-30's depending on certain factors like gender are when you'll be sure of it. Would be very interesting if that started to happen to him and he really started to spiral...well more than he already is lol
unless you meant that her having schizophrenia meant that jihwan was more likely to develop severe mental illness, in which case that would be correct as well
