The guy has to survive being the love interest of the emperor's concubines. Not only is it impossible for him to respond to their feelings (nor does he want to really), it's very likely to cause his demise if they don't forget about him. And it seems like they don't want to, so they pursuit him anyway, even if it means they might die along with him. Honestly, these girls...
Though my prediction is that the emperor might just throw them all at the MC, since according to the novel the emperor only falls in love with MC's sister anyway. Or the emperor dies, who knows... Or the nearly impossible, MC just dodges all the romance and lives the quiet and peaceful life he wanted (yeah, right, like that would happen).
