But I think this sorta mental block the Lyle has would take years to fix (hence why he needs therapy and not just his Ash imo) because he taught himself to never open up for years because he didn't wanna inconvenience anyone. This relationship with Ash, these feelings are still kinda new to him. I really think he just has a fear of making Ash mad or annoyed with him for asking about his ex but cant help himself from thinking less of himself.
I compare it to asking questions during a lecture. Even when people don't understand something they still don't ask the professor any questions for fear of being judged.
