This will be revealed when they entered the great dungeon again (more truths will be revealed when they entered it again). Kangjin died because he entered the black hole in the great dungeon as a sacrifice.

The black gate only closed because kang jin chose to sacrifice himself. On the black gate there's 2 option: to finish all the monster inside it or to sacrifice yourself and wait for 10 years for the portal to open again (only the people who gaia chooses can enter the black gate). Kang jin choosed to let the other players who survived to get out of the dungeon and then he decided to self destruct by sacrificing himself and wait for 10years (since he know that he can't finish all the monsters inside it)
Please spoil me what happened to Lee Kangjin and why only four of them left the dungeon... Did lee Kangjin enter the last blackhole?? Is he alive??
