So... he wanted a year leave cuz he wanted kids right? But he couldn't find a man good enough and to get preggs cuz he is too strong... so he'd need someone extra fertile and strong to be able to have a child... aka... the king. So... he disguised himself and went after him one time he went to town in disguise to de-stress...had a 1 night stand and went back home hoping it worked... while king went around desperately looking for a male mercenary with a vgg to take responsibility... went to duke to ask for help and caught him doing the deed and found everything out... so... for some time the 4 of them were happily in their relationship... But! King wants to marry him and be serious and Duke... he doesn't... so king gets mad and they are fighting.
That's when we learn that there are gods there... and god send an oracle to the pope and the pope pass it to the paladin to go look for their religion saint. The Duke. That's why he has a vgg even tho he is a male human, cuz that's the god of fertility/virility/abundance. But Paladin is exactly his type... which makes king even more pissed and trowing a tantrum. Duke understands why paladin is there cuz he went from dreaming of god, to hearing him to seeing and interacting with him and now needs to build him a temple. And king trowing a bigger tantrum by the day over his jealousy of him being close to the paladin... vuz he doesn't know about god and all... now the pope came and Duke is trying to do things fast to go talk with king and solve things... it's a bit long but basically it...
I do recommend reading cuz the reaction of the king's aide (the other duke) when he finds out is funny af...

No probs... ngl at some point I was ok, they are happy in their four-ple, they have 2 kids, one to inherit each of their positions and that's it. It can end now. And I was getting annoyed with how... dramatic the king was being and things were becoming insufferable... but tha Meos god... he does some random shee that's funny af... now at least 30% of my motivation is seeing him unwittingly passing the duke off... huahahahahah
