I getcha. Unfortunately, women in these stories (and during the rough time period it's based on historically) are treated like commodities instead of people. They are property to be married off for political and/or monetary gains. Rarely did they marry for love.
Obviously, this family loves each other and isn't going to just sell Lia to the highest bidder, but a scarred girl would be considered damaged goods in their classist society.
While I understand that for girls and women scar on the face might be earth shattering, but I personally met few with them, and never thought that it would be deal-breaker, like they still were beautiful in my eyes, and tbh I wouldn't mind having a partner with some kind of scar, and I believe most guys think the same way.
