Ah, yes, they literally go in circles, lol. However, I think the author wants to give a good reason and sense(?) for this since Ilay is not your typical "normal" human. I mean, he's quite a psycho who struggles to understand how human emotions work. So, it makes sense for them to be caught up in this repetitive cycle. Even though it annoys me, I still enjoy their strange and confused dynamic ╮(￣▽￣)╭
