Because suffering from self harm does not automatically bar you from BDSM. It is literally that simple. Self harm due to depression does NOT equal to BDSM, those are two separate things.

Athletes are very at risk for self harm actually. Just because they're "healthy" doesn't mean they're ok at all. Also he's not even an athlete he's a laborer. Anyone can self harm and while cutting is the most common kind working out beyond your limits is also a form of self harm. Also comparing someone who selfs harm and is experimenting with BDSM with literal victims of child grooming is both infanalizing and demeaning.
