I hated Skylar so much, couldn't connect with him. He was such a dick even after learning Cirrus' terrible backstory that totally explains why he did most of the things he did. ヽ(`Д´)ノ

for you to say this is rlly ignorant, sure he acted some sort of way w cirrus, but there was a reason for how he acted. cirrus had a backstory too, you js didnt understand both sides of the story

I have sympathy for him. He was bullied and had his trauma, but he said so himself, he was running away the whole story time. With that, I have no empathy. He had half-assed feelings, saying he was in love but not showing it, with one foot in the closet and the other outside. I cannot empathize with characters that have weak resolution.

I don't say he is not worthy of empathy from readers, I just say he doesn't have mine. I didn't like him as character because I hate people like that in real life, too.

Instead of being happy for both characters finding happiness in the end, you criticize one of them for experiencing character development? You seem to accept Cirrus's actions, which included blackmail and bullying, because of his backstory, as if that makes his behavior acceptable. On the other hand, Skyler, who was also dealing with trauma from past abuse, said very hurtful things and initially wanted nothing to do with Cirrus. However, he ultimately apologized and showed genuine remorse, yet you consider his actions unacceptable and unforgivable? So yeah your weird ;)

You are not weird at all. Its ok to feel things for fictional characters lol
I hate the idea that if you don’t like a well written character you are ‘illiterate’ or hate character development and like, you can undertands a story and a character and still don’t like them. and that’s normal, that’s the point of a story

I personally think that the way Skylar acted towards Cirrus was very well deserved lol

exactly my point.. theres a difference from not connecting with a character and just being completely ignorant of both of their perspectives

It’s perfectly okay not to like a character, but portraying Skylar as a horrible person and invalidating his feelings is quite strange. It's fine to say you don't relate to the character or that you don’t like him, but calling him derogatory names because of how he reacts to his emotions is unfair. While these characters are fictional, the story addresses important themes of abuse and the various ways people can respond to it.

I cannot invalidate the feelings of a fictional character. Because this is a story, I'm not talking about a real person. English is not my first language and so, whenever I comment based on feelings, I use the words I've learned. That being said, even if my comment was not as eloquent as it would have been in my mother tongue, I cannot use derogatory terms against a fictional character because... He isn't real. He cannot get offended and I was expressing thoughts on a story, so your comment really is a bit misguided. Although is your opinion, and I respect it even though is a bit weird to me.

This is a site to read and comment what you feel after you read, and I think we all can be mature enough to accept that this is a work of fiction and its purpose is to generate different emotions in the readers. And to know how to separate opinions of a work of fiction from real life. No one has to like every story or every character in it, that doesn't mean the story is bad or that the person didn't understand it. It simply means the things they like are different.

Take this section much lightly, life can be already hard enough for you to be this bothered by a comment!!

    Take care, all!
