In the novel they stated that his hand is fine, its the portion of brain/nerves that control the right hand that have been damaged in the accident. So its kind of impossible for him to recover as damaged/dead neurons don't regenerate. Its the VR system that helps his brain compensate the damaged part and utilize other parts of his brain to do archery as skillfully as he would irl which makes him more tired than other. This is why he is dripping with sweat always coming out of the pod. It will be covered at the end of his physical tests in the current arc.

I haven't read it completely yet but to the point I have, he has started loving streaming and gaming. He realized he could do more with VR gaming in terms of archery like different techniques, etc than he could as an athlete. He starts watching videos with battle archery and other techniques to incorporate in his gaming. He has made peace with the past and decided that if there came a time when he has to reveal his past he might not be as scared(as he shown now). And when it does come to light that he was an athlete he comes out and addresses it with a video. He reconnects with his athlete friends from what I have heard.

Oh my, that's alright ig. As long as almonds okay with it then I'm okay with it too. If streaming is what he pursued then I'm happy because he's much appreciated than he was an athlete considering that was more than or 10 years ago. Last question, do you know or think that almond in the novel tries archery again in the real life? That's what I wanna know now. I wanna know if he tries archery again without gaming?

Not till where I have read. Like I said before his nerves/neurons are damaged so his brain is compensating for it with the help of the VR system. The physical test that they are about to perform show that he has high sync with the system but it not exactly ideal. Bc there comes a point in the test where he could start feeling the pain/tremors in the VR too right before he exits it. The doctor that does the test offers him free treatment and tests if he allows her to study his situation since it is such a unique case.
I think the story is trying to portray that we should not be hung up on what we have bc we never know we might find something better just like Almond starts loving streaming and gaming bc it allowed him to do things he wouldn't be able to experience irl including super powers from the fantasy games.

Thank you so much now I understand it! I'm sorry for making you explain it to me two times but now I know, yes you're right. Something can be more better than past, and if it's making almond happy then I'm so happy for him too! Of course the importance of the message is so crucial because it carries the purpose of the story! Again, thank you so much!

eyyo quite a happy fact i wanna clarify: he DOES try archery again in a casual setting. he's still skilled with the bow, and he can do it on a surface level. it's only for serious competitions like the olympics that are impacted where even a second of difference matters. it's the same with athletes that, for example, get a knee injury. they can walk and run to do groceries but they will not be able to train intensely for hours to do 5km competitions.
the problem with Almond doing archery even in a casual capacity irl, while ultimately affected by a physical accident, is also compounded by a mental one. don't want to spoil anything too big unless you wanna know, but it's a pretty intense trauma that he feels guilty over & makes holding a bow irl difficult.
(1) he handles a bow for a commercial shoot and of course, despite the initial struggle, he does it flawlessly
(2) after his injury and relation to the nationals is revealed, he reconnects with his archery friends then his fandom grows big enough to hold an actual fan meet with his insane and hilarious loyal viewers . They do it in an archery range cafe where he demos archery & coaches some of the fans in shooting an arrow.
I can't wait when almond actually does archery in the real life or real world. And he actually gets his profession as an athlete back. Get recognized and his trembling hands will go away after overcoming his trauma. CAN'T WAIT FOR IT WHEN HE GETS FAMOUS INSTEAD OF BEING A STEAMER BUT AS AN ATHLETE!!!! GO FOR IT ALMOND!!!
