In the novel, it wasn't just about attention- well it's a huge part- but it was also because Agnes began to look similar to his mother who has suffered neglect from his father whom he hates. But he was too late anyway. It's interesting cause it draws a parallel to what I assumed happened between the emperor, Agnes's mother, and Raymond's father back in their time
I hate that the manga makes a victim of stalking become obsessed with getting the attention of the FL. It doesn’t matter that a different person is in the body of his abuser. It’s weird as hell and reeks of victim blaming that someone who was stalked, isolated, and harassed by the FL is now written to be obsessed with her even as he’s ignored by the FL. Her own brother is trying to marry the FL to her Raymond. Even though she terrorized Raymond for years. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
