It feels incompleteI already read the novel but it would be nice to have some closure regarding Cliff.
What happens to cliff in the novel ?
Cliff doesn’t disappear in the novel. He’s still under the control from the author & obsessed with Rize (author). Cliff and Rize marry but their marriage fells apart and they later divorce because of other things that happened. Rize gets send to the monastery, Cliff breaks out of the control from the author and remarries another woman. (He also still inherits the title of the duke).
Can you really say that he's under the control of the author when he doesn't actually like Rize anymore- the real Rize, he likes the author Rize. I feel like that shows how he's not under the control of the author's plot. Idk it feels like a slight plothole to me. Bcs if he was following the plot the author made, he'd be happy with og Rize.
In the novel, my understanding was Cliff was heavily & blindly in love with the version of Rize IN the loop (not the author per se), so much so that he was willing to overlook her faults.
However, since the loop ended, the author stopped pretending to be that version of Rize & slowly starts showing her *actually* personality rather than Rize's
Like any person hopelessly in love, it's difficult to immediately let go of someone whom you're deeply in love w/, despite recognizing that their personality is changing for the worse -> hence why he didn't divorce/hate her immediately (aside from the contract)
It took an imperial punishment for him to accept the fact that the Rize OUTSIDE the loop was no longer the Rize he loved (take note, it's shown that there is a stark difference between the author pretending to be the OG!Rize & the author's actual personality)
If u think about it, his new wife's personality is actual somewhat closer to that of the actual OG!Rize rather than the author pretending to be Rize -> alluding to his taste in women
