In the novel she actually wore a long flowy gown like other ladies not a tight dress.
When she finished off the last monster she slipped off a tree. Whilst falling down her gown almost flashed her panties to the crowd. In order to keep the skirt down she forgot to focus on landing safely which is why Astaire was able to swoop in and catch a literal knight.
