The writing...

I LOVE anti-hero plot types. That was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw this manga. But...

Alicia keeps giving me a whiplash with admirable logical choices and comedic knuckle sandwiches of "Villainess this" and "Villainess that". Someone in the comments made a good theory as to why but the way it's written makes it hard to take her seriously. Now I feel for how people who know her basically does at this point think "She's crazy but she means well". So far 3.5/5.

I dunno why I wrote this whilst reading the novel lol. Now 2-2.5 of 5.

Whoa, its been a while since I posted this.

If I recall correctly, she loses a lot, including her importance in the story. A lot of things won't make sense, and she'll keep downgrading her character to the point where you might as well call her a miscast extra instead of the main villainess. Those are the gripes I remember having before I dropped the book.

You keep saying novel, which is fine of course, but does all of that happen in the manga too? Would you be willing to spoil things for me? I've only seen the anime, and I really liked it, so I was hoping to pick up where the show left off. But if she starts losing and becoming irrelevant, then I'm definitely not interested. I just wanted to see her and Duke finally get together. Some other comments say many of the other characters still see her as evil or whatever, but is that still during the initial arc where Liz is subconsciously manipulating everyone, or do more things happen that make them hate her? I was also hoping her other two brothers got over themselves, but they and the rest of the guys all used to love Alicia. It's so sad, tbh.

Same, I liked the anime, that's why I picked up the manga, then got curious since it's not finished, also picked up the book.

    - So far the manga has been in-line with the novels events, albeit missing some information but it's the usual details-missing-from-novel thing with every adaptation
    - The novel in the latter half appeared to lean more to treating her like a stereotypical villain in a melodrama show, just in for the drama, but irrelevant to the plot, which makes a bit of sense since the world was forcing it to follow the original plot line.
    - Regarding the part where "many other characters still see her as evil", yes, she was still treated as such. Even when she shows the people that she "does" it for the greater good (like her family), she will still be shunned.

Now in terms of spoilers... I'll drop the major bombs that kicked me out of the story soooo

    MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD

    - Massive miscommunication between Duke and Alicia (You will want to slap both of them)
    - Everyone even until the end hates Alicia (Only a "handful", like literally, likes her, me against the world trope)
    - The father and the king are both hypocrites and idiots
    - Saintess has plot armor, the writer of the novel is doubling down on making the readers empathize with her, unfortunately, too many inconsistencies that even some readers said they "want to throw coffee to the writers face" after reading a certain chapter
    - In the anime and manga, Alicia for now only loses an eye and her hair, in the novel, she loses everything (even her magic) and gets exiled and ostracized. Oh, and her parents also abandoned her (even throwing away her gift to them as it was deemed insignificant.
    - The novel is still not done, so other novel readers are asking when the suffering will end

Amidst all the headache, I guess on the "plus" side, Alicia and Duke is end-game.

Thank you! Wow, I hate literally all of that... The writer is free to write whatever they wish, but damn, what a waste of time to read. Yeah, I won't be picking the novel up and I'll just create my own narrative in my head, haha. That's so disappointing... How are the King and her father hypocrites? Who exactly is on her side at the end, aside from hopefully Duke, Gil/Gill/Jill, and Will? And has the story reached its conclusion in the novel? Sorry for the barrage of questions, haha I really appreciate your answers!

It's alright, I'm more or less filling in what I remember of what I read (while also asking another friend who just finished reading it)

    - Let's start with the father. For someone who's explicitly claiming his "worry" of his children, he's pretty passive to it all, when his daughter was exiled and shamed by their nation, meh. And as for the king, claiming everything is for the greater good, I guess his greater good is the title of the saintess, for as long as the antagonist is the saintess, everything else will fall for all he cares. You'd think both of them will somewhat be allies based on how they were painted on early chapters but no.
    - friend added that its because of his romanticized idea of the word "saint" so he's biased

    - On her side, Gill, Henry, Mel and her cousin. Duke was on the grey line for a while as he was also the one who caused her to get exiled. Oh and Will... poor Will, died unnecessarily, like there was no point, but for the plot I guess, then again the disease probably had a timer.

    - The novel is finished since 2018, the web novel (the source of all frustrations) however is still not. They're both running on the same plot and writing, the novel is just more fast paced while the web novel is being written with more detail.

WILL DIES???? Noooooo!! He's one of my favorites... Though I imagine that's true for most fans. Laaaame. That all sounds like a whole lot of not my cup of tea. That took a turn for something I didn't expect and I'm disappointed. But thank you for telling me! It's definitely better than wasting my time waiting for the anime/manga to continue. Didn't Duke help get her exiled on purpose, as part of her plan to find a cure for that disease, and he wanted to help her? Or did she get exiled again? You don't have to answer if you don't want, since they won't change my overall opinion. I'm just kind of thinking out loud, so to speak.
